Advanced Network Systems helps the City of Charlottesville Launch its New Intelligent Transportation System
The Challenge:
The City of Charlottesville historically used dialup connectivity to manage some of its existing traffic controllers throughout the city. But, the minimal bandwidth provided by dialup connections limited the City’s ability to quickly manage and monitor traffic conditions in the city. In an effort to improve upon its existing system, the City set out to upgrade its network infrastructure to better support the existing traffic control system. The solution needed to be capable of supporting the data transfer of seven (7) traffic controllers (type 170) and two (2) MPEG4 capable video cameras back to the City’s Traffic Control center. A key issue associated with the project was that whatever the technology solution, the system had to be capable of expanding throughout the City of Charlottesville, with out loss of signal despite any existing conditions, such as buildings, trees or other forms of interference.

Storage Area Networks (SANs): How they work and why you should consider implementing one
Learn the fundamentals of Storage Area Networks (SANs), and how the next evolution in networked storage, IP-based SANs, benefits network administrators.
Your business is growing and simultaneously, your applications are generating more data content than ever. A direct-attached storage system (DAS) quickly becomes burdensome to manage in a successful mid-tier business, especially when your IT resources are being pulled to maintain multiple devices and solutions throughout your office.
To address these issues, many organizations are evaluating the merits of shared, or network, storage. By adding a highly available SAN to your infrastructure, you can have a data storage solution that scales without downtime, consolidates your servers and storage, maximizes your disk utilization, eliminates any single point of failure, and is easy to back up.

BENEFITS OF SAN
- Consolidate Servers & Storage
- Flexible, Scalable Data Storage
- Avoid Data Loss from Failures
- Simplify Backups and Restores
- Create an Affordable DR Plan
